Dry desulfurization
It has the following advantages compared with the conventional wet scrubbing process: lower investment cost; desulfurization products are in dry state and mixed with fly ash; no need to install mist eliminator and reheater; equipment is not easy to corrode, scaling and blockage. The disadvantages are: the utilization rate of absorbent is lower than that of wet FGD process; the economy is poor when used for high sulfur coal; the mixing of fly ash and FGD products may affect the comprehensive utilization; the control requirements for drying process are high.
Spray desulfurization
Spray dry flue gas desulfurization (abbreviated as dry FGD), first developed by the U.S. JOY Corporation and the Danish NiroAtomier Company, was developed in the mid-1970s and rapidly promoted in the power industry. The process uses an atomized lime slurry in contact with the flue gas in a spray drying tower, where the lime slurry reacts with SO2 to produce a dry solid reactant, which is finally collected together with the fly ash by the dust collector. China has conducted an intermediate test of rotary spray dry flue gas desulfurization in Baima power plant in Sichuan Province, and has gained some experience, which provides a basis for the design of optimized parameters of rotary spray dry flue gas desulfurization on 200~300MW units.
Coal ash desulfurization
Japan has researched dry flue gas desulfurization technology using fly ash as desulfurizer since 1985, and completed industrial practical trials by the end of 1988, and put into operation the first fly ash dry desulfurization equipment at the beginning of 1991, processing flue gas volume of 644,000Nm/h. Its characteristics: desulfurization rate up to 60% or more, stable performance, reaching the general wet method desulfurization performance level; low cost of desulfurizer; less water consumption, no need for drainage treatment and flue gas reheating; total equipment cost is 1/4 lower than that of wet method desulfurization; no slurry; no slurry can be reused; no slurry, no flue gas reheating; total equipment cost is 1/4 lower than that of wet method desulfurization; With less water consumption, no need for drainage treatment and exhaust reheating, the total equipment cost is 1/4 lower than wet method desulfurization; coal ash desulfurizer can be reused; no slurry, easy maintenance, simple and reliable equipment system.
Wet desulfurization
The process, form and mechanism of wet FGD in the world are similar, mainly using slurry such as limestone (CaCO3), lime (CaO) or sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) as detergent to scrub the flue gas in the reaction tower to remove SO2 from the flue gas. this process has a history of 50 years, after continuous improvement and refinement, the technology is relatively mature, and has high desulfurization efficiency (90% to 98%), large unit capacity, strong adaptability to coal types, low operating costs and easy recovery of by-products. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) statistics, the United States thermal power plants using wet desulfurization devices, wet lime method accounted for 39.6%, limestone method accounted for 47.4%, the two methods together accounted for 87%; double alkali method accounted for 4.1%, sodium carbonate method accounted for 3.1%. In China's thermal power plants and steel mills, more than 90% use the wet lime/limestone-gypsum method FGD process flow. But in China, Taiwan, Japan and other countries and regions with earlier desulfurization treatment, the basic use of magnesium method of desulfurization, accounting for more than 95%.
The main problem of magnesium method desulfurization is high unit price of absorber and complicated by-product equipment. But the advantages are high removal rate, high operation rate, good economic benefits of by-products, etc.
Wet FGD process is also more mature: seawater method; sodium hydroxide method; Wellman-LordFGD process of DavyMckee Company, USA; ammonia method, etc.
In the wet process, the reheat of flue gas directly affects the investment of the whole FGD process. Because the general temperature of flue gas after FGD in wet process is low (45℃), mostly below the dew point, if it is directly discharged into the stack without reheating, it is easy to form acid mist and corrode the stack, which is also not conducive to the diffusion of flue gas. Therefore, wet FGD units are generally equipped with flue gas reheat system. GGH is more expensive and accounts for a higher proportion of the investment in the whole FGD process. In recent years, Japan's Mitsubishi has developed a GGH that can eliminate the leakage type, which can better solve the problem of flue gas leakage, but the price is still high. The former German company SHU has developed a new process which can eliminate GGH and chimney. It installs the whole FGD device in the cooling tower of the power plant and uses the waste heat of circulating water in the power plant to heat the flue gas, and it works well, which is a very promising method.
